Pediatric Neurosurgery Center

1. Brief Introduction

Founded in 1958, the Pediatric Neurosurgery Group of the Department of Neurosurgery at Xuanwu Hospital is the first pediatric neurosurgery department with an independent ward in China. After years of continuous development, it is now one of the most comprehensive pediatric neurosurgery centers in China. After relocating to the China-INI Building, we officially established the “Di Rocco Center of Pediatric Neurosurgery” in 2021, which has brought us into a brand-new era. With a more frequent and intense cooperation with prof. C. Di Rocco’s group, our center has become the leading pediatric neurosurgery center nationwide, which will help to promote the development of pediatric neurosurgery in China!

We utilize advanced techniques such as microsurgery, intervention, endoscopy, stereotactic technologies, radiotherapy and more in our operations. Recognizing the complexities of the conditions, we take a collaborative approach to each child's treatment. Our neurosurgeons work closely with experienced anesthesia teams, intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring teams, ICU teams, radiology and pathology teams, radiotherapy teams and our caring nursing teams.

We use state-of-the-art surgical technologies and techniques to make procedures safer and more precise. These include intraoperative MRI scanning, advanced neuronavigation software for brain mapping, hybrid operating rooms, surgical imaging systems such as O-arm, and other advanced equipment, which allows us to diagnose and treat the most complex pediatric neurosurgical diseases and promote the health and welfare of children.
