Background
Dr. Ling received her M.D. from Shanghai Second Military Medical University in 1973 and Ph.D. from the Military Medical University of China in 1989. She finished her residency in the neurosurgery department of Nanking General Military Hospital from 1973 to 1979. She was appointed as attending and associated professor in 1985 and 1990, respectively, at the neurosurgery department of General Military Hospital of China. To learn interventional neurosurgery, Dr. Ling went to the Université Paris VII (Mentor: Prof. J.J, Merland) from 1982 to 1983 and the National Neurosurgical and Neurologic Hospital of England (Mentor: Prof. Symon) from 1990 to 1991. After that, she started the foundation for interventional neurosurgery in China. She was recruited to the neurosurgery department of Peking Hospital in 1994 as a chief professor. In 2000, Dr. Ling moved to Xuanwu Hospital and served as the professor and Chair for both the neurosurgery and interventional neurosurgery departments. In 2012, Dr. Ling established the first school of interventional neurosurgery in China. In cooperation with Prof. Samii, Dr. Ling established the China International Neuroscience Institute (China-INI) and was appointed as the president in 2003. Since 2015, Dr. Ling works as the Chief Expert in the Neurosurgery Department, Xuanwu Hospital, and Vice president of China-INI.
