Care at China-INI

Overview

“You will never know the true features of Lushan Mountain because you are in it.” Humans using their own brain to study the human brain will always encounter an unknown aspect. The motivation of endless exploration is the philosophy of CHINA-INI.

This brain-shaped building is a masterpiece of the German professor, Madjid Samii. The same building has been erected splendidly in Hannover in 2000 and has become a landmark building as well as a learning platform for worldwide neurosurgeons.

In 2003, Prof. Samii presented us the architectural ideas and drawings of INI as a gratuitous gift. Fifteen years of hard work and expectations have elapsed since the Cooperation Agreement was signed in 2004, then the completion of the construction in 2016 and finally the inauguration of China-INI in 2019. Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Xuanwu Hospital, China-INI will consolidate the strength of the Hospital and build up a brilliant future standing in front of the world today with a brand new

The Cradle of Chinese Neurosurgeons

The Neurosurgical Department of Xuanwu Hospital is the founding base of Chinese neurosurgery and the cradle of talent training. After more than 50 years of development and efforts by several generations including Professors. ZHAO Yicheng, WANG Zhongcheng, DING Yuji, LING Feng, ZHANG Hongqi, it has accumulated a wealth of connotation and treasures in aspect of cultural construction and developed a set of concepts concerning medical quality, talent cultivation and international cooperation.

  • Prof. Zhang Hongqi

Commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Prof. ZHAO Yicheng began organizing national neurosurgical and neuro-radiology training courses in 1959.

The Neurosurgical Department of Xuanwu Hospital holds the rotating presidency of the Neurosurgical Institute and dean of the 2nd Department of Capital Medical University.

The number of trainees has reached over 5000 and many of them have become pillars and leaders in Chinese neuroscience field.

Construction history of China-INI

On July 21st, 2000, the world's first brain-shaped building was constructed in Hannover, Germany raising enthusiastic praise of world neurosurgeons. More than 300 neurosurgeons gathered in Hanover to celebrate the amazing work that was completed coinciding with the new millennium. Meanwhile, it has brought more philosophical thinking. In 2003, Prof. LING Feng went to France to discuss with Prof. Samii about the feasibility and location of CHINA-INI.

In September 2003, China International Neuroscience Institute (China-INI) was approved by the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau.

  • In November 2004, Mayor WANG Qishan met Prof. M. Samii. Director JIN Dapeng personally announced that Prof. M. Samii became the first foreign doctor to obtain a permanent medical license in China. Director ZHANG Jian formally invited him as the President of CHINA-INI.

On June 10, 2008, the foundation ceremony of the first phase of the reconstruction and expansion of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University and the China-INI was held. Leaders from the Ministry of Health, relevant departments of Beijing, former German Chancellor Schroeder and Professor Samii were invited to attend the ceremony, delivered speeches, and laid the foundation for the project. More than 300 guests and staffs from the hospital attended the ceremony. The ceremony marked the beginning of the groundbreaking of the first phase of the hospital renovation and expansion project. The building exterior of CHINA-INI has been redesigned and constructed according to the blueprint used by the Hannover International Neuroscience Institute in Germany. This uniquely shaped building with human brain will become the new landmark of South Beijing.

The establishment of the institute was approved and fully supported by the Beijing Municipal Government. The CHINA-INI Expert Committee, led by the former President of the World Federation of Neurosurgery (WFNS) and honorary President Professor Samii, was established to bring together the world's leading neuroscience masters. The neurosurgical “Dream Team” of world-class experts will give academic lectures, surgical demonstrations and professional training for academic and technical leaders from all over the country to provide top level medical services for domestic and overseas patients.

  • In 2008, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder came to participate in the cornerstone ceremony of China-INI, and was received by JIA Qinglin, member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and the President of CPPCC National Committee.

  • China-INI Cornerstone Laying Ceremony on June 10, 2008

    M. Samii addressed the Cornerstone Ceremony party.

After completion, CHINA-INI has a brain characteristic architectural appearance, with 8 floors above ground and 3 floors underground, with a construction area of 20,000 square meters, equipped with the cutting-edge neurosurgical equipment, including intraoperative-MRI, intraoperative-DSA, Neural navigation robots, adaptive intensity modulated radiation therapy equipment, etc.
