“China Science Communication Diancang, One in a Hundred” competition organized by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission
On October 12, the final round of the 2024 Health Science Popularization Short Video Collection Activity were held in the “Yang Sheng Tang” program of the Beijing Radio and Television Broadcast Satellite TV Channel. Three outstanding science communication works selected by Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University stood out from more than 300 works and all entered the semi-final and broadcast stage. At the final, Professor Wu Hao from the Department of Neurosurgery vividly presented health science communication knowledge about neurospinal diseases with his profound professional knowledge, witty expression and humorous explanations, which was deeply loved by the audience. In the end, he won the second prize in this competition with an excellent score of second place overall.
The competition was hosted by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, organized by the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Beijing Satellite TV program “Yang Sheng Tang”, and open to medical institutions across the city. The aim was to select and promote a number of outstanding short health science videos suitable for new media communication, and to guide and encourage citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Since its launch in June, more than 300 entries were collected. After initial screening, on-site judging, exhibition and broadcast of the works, and other links, the top ten contestants finally entered to the final.
In the "best of the best" part, the first round of the final competition, Professor Wu Hao vividly demonstrated his interaction with patients in the form of a “consultation” sitcom. In the play, he cleverly blended profound medical knowledge into a relaxed and enjoyable dialogue, humorously explaining the potential impact of scoliosis on personal health and its genetic factors.
In the second round called “Championship Battle”, Professor Wu Hao innovatively tried the talk show “I am Wu Hao”. With his unique perspective, witty language, and humorous approach, he organically integrated the trivial matters, joys and sorrows, and doctor-patient empathy from his medical career, allowing the audience to feel the power of medical humanities and the charm of health science communication in laughter.
In this year's competition, our department actively prepared, from topic selection to planning, filming to editing, and the semi-finals to the finals, striving for perfection. The two health science short videos “Common Misconceptions about Back Pain” by Professor Wu Hao and “After a Craniotomy, Do You Want Your Skull?” by Dr. Chen Sichang were shortlisted for the semi-finals and broadcast, winning praise from the expert judges for their unique perspectives, lively interpretations, accurate content and excellent production, which fully demonstrated the rigorous approach, innovative vitality and profound accumulation of health science communication work of our department."
