On April 27, 2023, in the final round of the 6th Science and Technology Innovation Competition held by Beijing Hospital Management Center, Xuanwu Hospital won the second prize of the Science and Technology Innovation Competition for its project "V-link Project: Intravascular Interventional Brain-Machine Interface", which ranked runner up.
With the theme of "Medical Science Fiction" and the goal of "Technology Empowerment, Medical Enlightenment", this year's competition aims to promote the construction of a scientific and technological innovation center with global influence in Beijing, accelerate the transformation of 22 municipal hospitals into research-based and innovative hospitals, promote the construction of skill teams of municipal hospitals, and cultivate a group of professional cross-disciplinary talents. The goal of the competition is to promote the development of Beijing as a global center of scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the transformation of 22 municipal hospitals into research-based and innovative hospitals, promote the construction of skilled personnel in municipal hospitals, and train a group of cross-disciplinary professionals. After the fierce competition in the preliminary and final rounds, medical innovations with influence and development potential were selected, and a total of 10 projects entered the final round.
At the final round, each participating hospital presented its science and technology innovation projects to the judges and experts from clinical medicine, basic medicine and experts from investment and financing fields according to the discipline characteristics of the hospital. Finally, through the fierce competition of 8-minute project road show, the expert judges made a comprehensive judgment on the 10 projects entering the final round from the aspects of technical advancement, product maturity, future promotion prospect, project foundation and investment value, etc., and selected one first prize, three second prizes and six third prizes according to the ranking from highest to lowest.

Intravascular interventional brain-machine interface technology requires only the natural lumen of the body - the venous route - to achieve brain-machine connectivity. The team uses a neuro-interventional technique for the treatment of cerebrovascular disease, in which an EEG sensor is implanted in a vein adjacent to a functional brain area, such as the motor cortex, and the stent self-expands to squeeze the electrode against the wall of a blood vessel close to the brain to obtain signals from the corresponding brain area. The greatest advantage of this technique is that no cranial drilling or craniotomy is required to obtain EEG signals.
Dr. Ma Yongjie from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University was interviewed by Beijing Radio and Television after the competition.
