CHINESE DOCTORS' DAY
What should we give you on Doctors' Day?
Right now, there are only two words in my mind:
“blood”.
On August 19, 2024, the seventh Chinese Doctors' Day, we are all spreading the word about how hard doctors work and how important their work is. Xu Chuanjie, a resident doctor from Zunyi, Guizhou, used 400 ml of her blood to tell us the true meaning of the profession.
A nurse in the department of neurosurgery was diagnosed with acute leukemia M2 in the hematology department due to severe anemia, and needed chemotherapy and subsequent bone marrow transplantation. A minimum hemoglobin level of 3.2g was a problem for both the hematology department and the blood transfusion department. In order to ensure the health of their colleagues without affecting the blood use of hospital patients, the department of neurosurgery of Xuanwu Hospital began to register for mutual blood donation at the initiative of the branch.
In one day, more than 70 medical staff signed up, some retired directors also joined the ranks of blood donors, and some residents expressed their willingness to donate blood. In just one day, two nurses completed the first batch of blood donations. It is understood that this was not the first time they had donated blood. Since blood for leukemia unlike blood for resuscitation, which is a slow and long process, the department has sorted the people who will voluntarily donate blood. However, it does not include Dr. Xu Chuanjie because in one week, her residency will be over.
Today is Chinese Doctors' Day, and the “Happy Chinese Doctors' Day” slogans have been posted all over the hospital. The hospital leaders also came to the department to bring their regards to the doctors.
Surprisingly, on this day for doctors, we saw Dr. Xu Chuanjie taking time out of her lunch break to go to the blood donation station near the hospital and complete the blood donation for our nurse.
Dr. Xu Chuanjie, a member of the Communist Party of China, is from the First People's Hospital of Zunyi City. She is a resident doctor in the department of neurosurgery of Xuanwu Hospital, specializing in neurocritical care. She volunteered in Xinjiang for a year and has participated in blood donations more than ten times.
When we interviewed Dr. Xu, she acted as if it was nothing special. She just wanted to donate blood if she could, and hoped that her blood would not be wasted. Dr. Xu, you deserve a “Thank you” from all your colleagues in the department of neurosurgery of Xuanwu Hospital. Because you donated blood to a nurse you didn't know during the last week of your training. Such things should not be easily forgotten by the world, and she has interpreted the meaning of “Doctor” with her actions.
President Zhao Guoguang said that Xuanwu Hospital is a place that emphasizes family culture, and every colleague is our family. We hope that everyone who has been here can consider this place your home, and we also hope that our family members will recover soon and return to our big family.
