Neurosurgery and cerebrovascular disease experts

from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University were invited to

the 17th Congress of World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology

and presented important results

WFITN2024

The 2024 Annual Meeting of 17th Congress of World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) was held in New York, USA from October 6th to October 10th local time. As important members of the world neurointerventional field, three experts from the Neurosurgery Cerebrospinal Vascular Disease Center and Cerebral Blood Flow Reconstruction Center of Xuanwu Hospital were invited to attend the conference. Many of their articles were selected for presentation and poster communication at the conference, showcasing Xuanwu's achievements to neurointerventional experts from all over the world.

Professor Zhang Hongqi of the Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital was invited to give a special report on spinal arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms and dural arteriovenous fistulas, and to moderate the main conference on October 9.

Professor Zhang Hongqi gave a wonderful speech in the session on spinal arteriovenous malformations (SAVM). He reported on a new classification system based on Chinese SAVM research, where treatment methods differ under the guidance of different classifications. The new classification system helps determine treatment plans, thereby improving prognosis. This triggered heated discussions and was unanimously approved by the experts present.

Dr. Ma Yongjie from the Department of Neurosurgery at Xuanwu Hospital gave three presentations in the arteriovenous fistula session, introducing transvenous retrograde embolization of the sacrococcygeal and the CHINA-INI classification of arteriovenous fistulas in the cranio-cervical junction area, as well as 10 years of experience with CHINA-INI dural arteriovenous fistulas, which aroused enthusiastic discussion among the experts present, including Prof. René Chapot from Germany and Prof. Georges Rodesch from France, who were very interested in our research.

Dr. Liu Delin, Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital spoke at the Stroke Session, introducing a multi-center, prospective, randomized controlled clinical trial design plan (VISTA study) for vertebral artery stenosis being conducted in our hospital. Many experts on the scene asked questions and had a lively discussion.

Guo Xiaoyan (Class of 2021, Clinical Medicine JiePing Class, Capital Medical University), a student of Zhang Hong Qi, also gave a speech at the stroke session, introducing a national multi-center, retrospective clinical study of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) and announcing the effects of meteorological factors such as temperature and air pollutants on the risk of aSAH, which aroused the interest and discussion of the present fellow colleague.

The Congress of World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN ) consists of neurointerventional societies from many countries, and the Special Committee of Chinese Federation of Interventional Clinical (CFITN) is one of them. The WFITN is a biannual conference where experts in the field of neurointervention gather. Prof. Zhang Hongqi, as a chairman of the CFITN, has been actively participating in this conference, leading the Department of Neurosurgery of Xuanwu Hospital and a number of neurointerventionists from China to actively participate in this conference, and demonstrated China's neurointervention style in oral presentations, poster presentations, satellite meetings, and other aspects.
