The 2024 American Association of Neurological Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting was held from September 28 to October 2, local time in Houston, USA. Cerebrovascular and Brain Tumor Specialist from Department of Neurosurgery of Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University were invited to make presentations at the annual meeting.

Prof. Hong Tao from Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, was invited to give a lecture entitled "Genetics of vascular malformations in the central nervous system: recent advances and future perspectives" in the Cerebrovascular Disease Section.

As the only international speaker invited in the Cerebrovascular Disease Session of this conference, Prof. Hong Tao introduced the new progress in the genetics of cerebrospinal vascular malformations in recent years, and emphasized the academic contributions of Xuanwu Hospital team in the genetic mechanism of somatic mutations in arteriovenous malformations and cavernous vascular malformations, animal models and molecular pathogenesis. He described the role of these discoveries in the development of drug therapeutic targets and the possibility of new therapies for the treatment of vascular malformations. His presentation aroused resonance and heated discussion among the participating experts.

Associate Professor Cheng Ye from Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, was invited to present his research result "Presentation of Metabolic Boundary and Spatial Molecular Visualization of Glioma" in the Late Breaking Session - Tumor.

He also elaborated that the neuro-oncology team of Xuanwu Hospital has accurately defined the boundary of malignant gliomas from tumor metabolic imaging after 5 years of research, confirmed it at the molecular level through stereotactic biopsy, and put forward the concept of local molecular mutation and spatial molecular visualization, which has been progressively applied to the clinic.

A number of awards were also presented, and Prof. Cheng Ye became the only recipient of the Elekta Brain Tumor Research Award at this conference for his research results. At the same time, Prof. Tang Jie of Department of Neurosurgery also gave a poster presentation on "Non-invasive and Minimally Invasive Diagnosis and Treatment of Brain Tumors Based on Integrated PET\MR" at the congress.

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting is the highest level and largest annual academic meeting of neurosurgery in the U.S. This year's meeting attracted more than 3,300 neurosurgeons from 77 countries around the world. At the same time, the conference invited Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, NBA legend Elvin Johnson, and Elon Musk, the founder of Neuralink and SpaceX, to be the guest researchers. The academic reports of neurosurgeons from Xuanwu Hospital in this congress fully demonstrated the cutting-edge research results of Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital in cerebrovascular disease surgery and neurological tumors, reflecting the influence of Xuanwu Hospital in the field of international neurosurgery and the concept of open cooperation as the National Medical Center for Neurological Diseases.
